  • What is the difference between water based and discharge ink?
Water based and discharge inks work by dying the fibers of the fabric. They both use the same base inks. The main difference being that water based inks dye the fabric and work on light colored garments. Whereas discharge inks have an ingredient added to the base ink that bleaches the fabric and redyes it to the desired color all in one step. Discharge inks are used on dark colored garments. Both water based and discharge inks work best on 100% cotton.
  • Why do water based and discharge ink work best on 100% cotton shirts?
Water based and discharge inks dye the fibers of a garment as opposed to sitting on top of the material like plastisol ink. These inks will dye natural fibers, but the synthetic fibers usually won't dye or discharge as well. For example, printing on a heathered or triblend fabric will produce a print that is not as vibrant in color, giving it a more vintage look.
